- Jim Croteau lives in Kalamazoo, Michigan with his partner of 31 years, Darryl, and their two Labrador retrievers. He grew up gay and Catholic and white in the southern United States in the 1960’s and 70’s and has spent his adult life in small non-coastal cities, mostly in the Midwest. He loved his mother very much. He began writing poetry in May 2012 at first to cope with life in times of aging and then, well, he sorta caught the poetry bug. He is still working as a professor in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University.

Big News--Ten Poems accepted for publication in Assaracus: A Journal of Gay Poetry
OK--I have news that I am still a bit stunned about. Assaracus: A Journal of Gay Poetry has accepted 10 of my poems. I am to be one of 8-10 or so poets featured probably in its April 2014 in the July 2014 issue. Byran Borland, the editor, is the poet that inspired me to begin writing poetry in March 2102. Assaracus is a journal that has made a major hit in LGBT literary circles and I am thrilled beyond words. Yay! That is super cool. btw i stumbled across your blog looking for info about the course with Melody Gough, which i decided to take. My name is Rachel and I have worked in boring IT forever, have also kept a journal for YEARS, and would like to try my hand at poetry. News like this must me amazing! I must say also well deserved. I really like the few poems I have read. I am curious about the poetry you read as well!
ReplyDeleteMelody's course was a great first experience for me. I think that one of the poems I started there 18 months ago when I took it was one of the ones that made it to publication. Thanks for being the first person ever to comment in my blog!!
